Taliban kidnap British citizen in Kabul
A British citizen is missing after being captured by the Taliban in Kabul, the British tabloid Daily Mirror reported yesterday (Friday).
There has been no news of Grant Bailey, in his fifties, working for an NGO in Afghanistan, since Saturday when he was arrested at gunpoint, a source close to the British security services quoted by the newspaper said.
“We are aware of the arrest of a British national in Afghanistan and we are in contact with his family to support them,” a spokesman for the British Foreign Office said.
When contacted by Agence France-Presse to request information on the fate of the Briton, Taliban officials did not follow up.
Concern in London is now growing as it is not known what happened to him, where he is being held and why, according to Mirror, whose information is thatGrant Bailey returned to Afghanistan in September after the Taliban seized power.
