Based on what diplomatic sources told Anadolu Agency today, Turkey and Qatar have agreed to jointly operate Kabuls Hamit Karzai International Airport in Afghanistan.

Following talks between committees from both countries, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Turkish and Qatari companies to operate the airport in cooperation on the basis of equal partnership, the sources told Anadolu Agency.

According to the sources, the memorandum was signed during Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu’visit to Doha for the seventh session of the Turkey-Qatar High Strategic Committee.

A joint committee of Turkish and Qatari officials will visit the Afghan capital Kabul to discuss the agreement with the countrys interim government, as well as the demands and expectations of theAfghan side.

Flights were suspended at Afghanistans main international airport in Kabul after the Taliban seized power inAugust and US troops destroyed equipment and a radar system at the facility before leaving the country.
