The US Air Force has announced that the third test of the AGM-183A ARRW (Air-launched RapidResponseWeapon) supersonic missile under development has failed.
The US Air Force wanted the missile tests to be completed in 2021 so that it could enter service in2022, but this is now impossible.
The test was carried out on 15 December by a B-52H strategic bomber. During the test, the missile failed and failed to launch from the aircraft.
The second, also unsuccessful, test was carried out last July, while the first was carried out last April and was also unsuccessful. The AGM-183A is expected to have a maximum range of 1,600 km and reach a maximum speed of Mach 20. Its development was launched in 2018 by Lockheed Martin under a $480 million contract.
