Kalekalıp Business Development Director Türker Özcihan said the KMG 556 is Turkey‘s first 5. 56mm machine gun for which certification has been completed, he said:
“It was developed by Kalekalıp engineers with fully in-house facilities. While doing this, we are not copying a reverse-engineered product, but creating our own specifications. It‘s a product of our own design that we created. All its components are domestic,” he said.
Explaining that with this weapon, they brought a weapon that Turkey finds it difficult to buy from abroad and which can be produced by major arms manufacturers in the world, Özcihan said, “It can be mounted on a vehicle, but it is a weapon that can be carried by soldiers at platoon level and can be used directly in the operation. “
KaleKalıp‘s Director of Strategic Relations, Hakan Akkoç, said that they have been working on the design and certification of the machine gun for about 2 years.
Akkoç said the machine gun weighs 7. 8 kg and can fire 750-950 rounds per minute with 5. 56 mm ammunition.
Pointing out that the machine guns have passed 34 tests to enter mass production, Akkoç said, “We completed the certification tests of the KMG556 at the end of a difficult process that lasted a month. Now we are ready for mass production for our machine gun. We are waiting for news to inform the Turkish Armed Forces, police and gendarmerie,” he said.
Noting that they are aware of the needs in Turkey, Akkoç said, “We continue to work on developing new versions of our machine guns, as we do on all our products. “
