The US State Department has approved the potential sale of more than 500 Javelin Lightweight Command Launch Units (LWCLUs) to the UK.

The British government had requested 513 Javelin LWCLUs worth $300 million, including “Javelin LWCLU Basic Skills Trainers; Javelin Outdoor Trainers; Javelin Vehicle Launcher Electronics; the Javelin LWCLU Train the Trainer Package; Lifecycle Support; System Integration and Check out.”

The approval comes three months after manufacturer Lockheed Martin announced a planned production increase to prepare for an expected demand surge from Ukraine.

The US delivered an estimated 5,500 Javelins to Kyiv from February to May.

To Replenish UK’s Javelin Stocks

London has also shipped nearly 7,000 anti-tank weapons to the beleaguered nation, including Javelins, NLAWs, and Brimstones.

The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency stated that the proposed sale would strengthen the UK’s capacity to meet current and future threats.

The Javelin is a shoulder-fired medium-range fire and forget anti-armor system co-developed by Lockheed and Raytheon through the Javelin Joint Venture.
