A Houthi spokesman in Yemen announced that Shiite rebels sent six drones armed with missiles against the Aramco complex in Jeddah and against the King Fahad airbase in Taif province, as reported by Massira TV.
He added that the Houthis also targeted military installations in Riyadh, including the Ministry of Defence and the city‘s airport.
There is currently no information on casualties or serious damage from these attacks.
Saudi authorities said late Monday that a missile was intercepted over the country‘s capital, where residents reported hearing loud explosions.
Moreover, according to other information from the rebels, several ballistic missiles and a total of 25 drones with explosives were launched against Saudi Arabia.
Houthi rebels have stepped up their attacks against Saudi Arabia as the Riyadh-led military coalition has stepped up air strikes against the Yemeni capital, Sana‘a, and the gas-rich Marib province, which this year has become the focus of seven years of fighting in the war, with thousands of fighters killed on both sides.
The Saudis accuse Iran of providing the Houthis with missiles, while UN investigators have pointed out that some of the equipment they use bears technical characteristics similar to those of Iranian-made weapons.
The Houthis reply that they manufacture their own weapons.
The Saudi-led military coalition intervened in the war in Yemen in 2015 after the Houthis invaded Sanaa and ousted the internationally recognised Yemeni government.
