R. T. Erdogan makes belligerent statements against Cyprus & Greece after the arson of a mosque in Larnaca
The attack on a mosque in Larnaca will not go unanswered, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said, saying “you will pay a heavy price for your participation in such sabotage“.
In his statements before leaving for Qatar, the Turkish President said that “unfortunately, there was an attack on our mosques in southern Cyprus. Of course, this attack on southern Cyprus will not go unanswered. There are statements by our party‘s spokesman, Mr. Omer Chelik. And we, together with the statements of our ‘president‘ of Cyprus Ersin Tatar, are saying to the south of Cyprus: don‘t do such sabotage to our churches. You will pay a heavy price for your participation in such sabotage,” the Turkish President said.
Tayyip Erdogan also said that they are in search of who is behind this. “We have six mosques in southern Cyprus and their security is the responsibility of the administration of southern Cyprus. We say they should provide the same security as we provide for their own holy places and their churches,” the Turkish President said.
Earlier in a statement on social media, AKP spokesman Omer Çelik condemned the attack on the Grand Mosque in Larnaca. “The Greek Cypriot administration is not taking appropriate measures against these attacks, which are indicative of Islamophobia and Turkish hostility. The Greek Cypriot administration failed to conduct an effective investigation when a similar provocative action was taken last year.
As a natural consequence, a similar ugly incident occurred. Those responsible for these attacks are those who promote hostility towards Islam and Turks,” says Omer Çelik.

Cypriot police arrested a 27-year-old Syrian man who set fire to the mosque because he had a dispute with the imam. After an examination, it was found that he had psychological problems and he was transferred to a psychiatric hospital for treatment.
