The President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, gave the assurance that Romania will continue its arms programme.
Referring to the well-known F-16 fighter procurement program, a total of 32 second-hand fighters from Norway, he said that the modernization of the Romanian Air Force does not stop there but will continue with the procurement of the F-35 from the US.
According to him, his country is at a time when it is facing security issues in its surroundings (meaning obviously the proximity to Ukraine, unstable Moldova and of course Russia further north), so military reinforcement is necessary, as well as to serve its allied obligations.
On the F-35 issue, however, there is no other information and there are no plans – according to the Romanian media – for a quick development, as the completion of the delivery of the F-16s and their modernization is the priority.
