According to a report by the defence websiteDefense News, Republicans, members of Congress, have asked the government to accelerate the sale of 250 M-1A2C Abrams tanks to Poland, a programme that has been approved since the summer of 2021, but the DSCA (Defense Security Cooperation Agency) has not yet informed Congress.

The request to accelerate the programme has to do with the ongoing tension/crisis with Russia. Poland and General Dynamics have reached an agreement so that, when the contract is activated, the first tanks will be delivered in 2022.

Poland currently relies on Leopard-2A5 and Leopard-2A4 tanks and is looking for a new tank to replace the T-72 and PT-91.

In the summer, the Polish website Gazeta. pl reported that the potential cost of the programme would be between $2. 9-5. 5 billion, including ammunition, support, training and infrastructure.
