Turkish TAI (Turkish Aerospace Industries) has announced that it has started the production (assembly) process of the Hürjet jet trainer and light aircraft.
The Hürjet started development in 2017, the first prototype should be completed by the end of 2022, with the first flight expected in March 2023.
A total of four prototypes will be built in two different configurations (one-seater and two-seater), two of which will be used for flight tests, one for static tests and one for stress tests.
The aircraft will reach speeds of Mach 1. 2+, operate at an altitude of 45,000 feet and can carry a 3,000 kg payload. The aim is to replace the T-38M Talon training aircraft from 2025 onwards and, of course, sales abroad.
